Sainsbury's Chipping Norton

Sainsbury's Chipping Norton

If you're settling in for a week (and you should), Sainsbury's in Chipping Norton is the place to stock up. It's a full-size store with everything you'd expect: good fresh fruit and veg, a bakery, a decent wine selection and all the everyday essentials. About fifteen minutes from the cottage by car.

There's something quietly reassuring about knowing a well-stocked supermarket is just down the road. The Sainsbury's in Chippy sits on the edge of town, easy to get to and with a big car park that never seems to fill up. The fresh produce section is reliable, the bakery does the job for morning pastries, and the wine aisle has enough range to keep things interesting over a longer stay. You'll also find a petrol station and a click-and-collect point if you prefer to order ahead.

We tend to do one big shop here early in the week, then top up from the farm shops and delis closer to the cottage for the more interesting bits: local cheese, proper bread, seasonal veg. It's a good combination. Sainsbury's handles the staples and the fridge fillers; the independents handle the things you'll actually remember eating.

“Do the big shop at Sainsbury's on your first morning, then spend the rest of the week raiding farm shops for the good stuff.”
