Not glamorous, but genuinely useful. The Co-op sits right in Chippy's town centre, and it's where we grab milk, fresh loaves and anything we've forgotten for supper. Open late enough that you don't need to plan every meal in advance.
There's something reassuring about knowing a decent supermarket is only ten minutes down the road. The Co-op in Chipping Norton is compact but well stocked, with a good bakery section, fresh fruit and veg, and all the everyday bits you'll want during a week's stay. It's the kind of place you pop into for breakfast croissants, a bottle of wine for the evening, or bin bags when you realise you've run out.
We'd always suggest the farm shops and delis for something special, but for the practical stuff (cereal, butter, toothpaste, that sort of thing) the Co-op is hard to beat. Parking is easy in Chippy, and you can combine a trip with a wander around the town's independent shops and cafes. It's open seven days a week, with longer hours than most of the smaller village shops nearby.
“We always end up in the Co-op at least once per visit. It's nothing fancy, but it saves the day when you just need milk and a loaf of bread.”
All of this on the doorstep, and your own thatched cottage to come home to. Sleeps seven, less than a mile from Soho Farmhouse.
