Eagles Fine Foods

Eagles Fine Foods

If you're staying at Well Cottage and want to stock the kitchen properly, Eagles is where you start. It's a short drive into Deddington, and the shelves are stacked with local cheeses, cured meats, proper bread and a wine selection that takes the guesswork out of supper.

Deddington

Eagles Fine Foods

Eagles sits on the marketplace in Deddington, one of those small Cotswold towns that punches well above its weight. The shop is compact but carefully curated: local farm cheeses, charcuterie, seasonal fruit, fresh meat from nearby estates, and a corner of wines and spirits that someone has clearly thought hard about. They do beautiful custom hampers too, which is worth knowing if you're arriving late on a Friday and want something ready in the kitchen when you walk through the door.

What makes Eagles different from a supermarket run is that almost everything on the shelves has a story and a postcode. The producers are local, the bread is fresh, and the staff genuinely know what they're selling. It's the kind of place where you pop in for butter and leave with a wheel of Oxford Blue, a jar of chutney and a bottle of something interesting for later. Deddington itself is a lovely stop: a few good pubs, an antiques centre, and a farmers' market on the fourth Saturday of each month that's one of the best in the county.

“We always call in on the way to the cottage. A slab of local cheese, some of their sourdough and a bottle of red, and the first evening sorts itself out.”
