Well Cottage sits 0.8 miles from the gates — a three-minute drive, or a long stroll down a single-track lane. The closest private cottage to the Farmhouse, and the obvious base for Soho House members.
Well Cottage sits in the quiet hamlet of Ledwell, less than a mile from the gates of Soho Farmhouse. For Soho House members, it's become the obvious alternative to staying on the estate — you get the spa, the restaurants, the pools and the activities during the day, and come home to your own thatched cottage, a proper inglenook fire and a walled garden when the evening comes. More space, more privacy, a fraction of the cost.
It's a five-minute drive or a gentle cycle across the fields. Well Cottage sleeps seven across four bedrooms, making it ideal for a group of friends or two families who all happen to be members — or who are being brought along as guests.
The spa sits at the heart of the estate — 13 treatment rooms, a gym, fitness classes, sauna, steam room and an ice shed, plus dedicated manicure and pedicure chairs. Therapists use Cowshed products throughout, and treatments run from 10am to 8pm daily.
The outdoor pool is a phenomenon: 135 feet long, heated to 35°C year-round, stretching from an indoor barn out into the open air. Sunken hot tubs sit along the Lazy Lake. There's also a dedicated Teeny Pool for younger guests. From morning laps to a long afternoon float, you can spend an entire day here and barely notice.
From a wood-fired Sunday roast in the Main Barn to Japanese robata at Pen Yen on the lake — the food here is better than you might expect from a members' club this size, and more varied. The Sunday roast is where we'd start, particularly in winter. Book the table by the fire.
The sociable heart of the estate — split between the relaxed Comfy Farm downstairs and the more elevated Fancy Farm upstairs. House favourites, wood-fired dishes, legendary breakfasts and the Sunday roast that everyone talks about. Open all day.
Perched by the water on the Boathouse — robata grill, sushi, sashimi and bao buns in an izakaya-style setting. The most special-occasion table on the estate, and one of the better Japanese restaurants in the Cotswolds by some distance.
A relaxed setting for homemade pasta, wood-fired pizza and grilled meats. The informal counterpart to Pen Yen — ideal for a long lunch after the pool, or an unfussy dinner with children in tow.
A Grade II-listed barn housing the best sausage rolls for miles — alongside sourdough loaves, cinnamon buns and a proper coffee. Essential pre-swim fuel or a post-treatment reward. Members frequently stockpile these on the way home.
The countryside outpost of the beloved Soho Persian restaurant — bold, fragrant dishes cooked over fire, served in the Farm Yard. A brilliant change of pace from the main barn and one of the estate's best-kept secrets.
In warmer months the estate comes alive outdoors — long table feasts on the lawn, cocktail floats on the water, and guest chef residencies that rotate through the season. Check the Soho House app for what's on during your stay.
The estate is genuinely a playground — there's enough here to fill three days without repeating yourself.
The 135ft heated pool is the centrepiece — half inside, half out, 35°C year-round. Arrive early on summer weekends to get a lounger by the outdoor section.
Multiple courts for both — book in advance through the Soho House app. A doubles match before breakfast is a very good way to start a morning.
Hacking through the Oxfordshire countryside on estate horses — guided rides available for all levels. One of those things you forget you can do until you're actually doing it.
Instruction provided, no experience necessary. Book a slot before lunch and you'll have earned your Pen Yen booking by the time evening comes round.
Rowboats and paddle boards on the estate's lake — hire by the hour and drift around at your own pace. Peaceful in a way that's hard to find anywhere else.
Deep armchairs, cocktails and a proper sound system — the estate's private cinema shows a rotating programme of new releases and classics. Check the app for screenings during your dates.
The estate provides bikes for exploring the grounds. And from Well Cottage, the ride to the Farmhouse gates is less than a mile — flat, quiet lanes, no car required.
Children's territory — animals to meet, a sandpit, craft sessions and Little Berenjak for lunch. The estate manages the rare trick of being good for families without feeling like a theme park.
The Soho Home Studio stocks curated homeware and fashion. The estate also houses works by Damien Hirst and Harland Miller — more of a private gallery than a corridor.
We see it every weekend — Soho House members who want all of the Farmhouse without all of the estate. Here's why the combination works so well.
Well Cottage has four bedrooms, two living rooms, two bathrooms, a walled garden and a full kitchen. Even the biggest Farmhouse cabins can't match that for a group stay — and you're not sharing walls with anyone.
The Farmhouse is social by nature. Well Cottage gives you your own front door in a village of eleven houses. Come home, light the fire and decompress without bumping into the rest of the estate.
Well Cottage sleeps seven at excellent value — leaving more in the budget for spa treatments, dinners at Pen Yen and activities on the estate.
Seven guests means you can bring a larger group than most Farmhouse accommodation allows — all with a single private base to return to. Perfect for milestone birthdays, long weekends or group retreats.
The hamlet of Ledwell is genuine — a dozen thatched houses, a Norman church and footpaths that disappear into the fields. It's a reminder that the Cotswolds exist beyond the estate perimeter.
Members can bring guests to Soho Farmhouse. Stay at Well Cottage and you have a private home base for the whole group — members and their guests alike — without needing to book multiple rooms on the estate.
The estate runs a rolling programme of member events — accessible via the Soho House app. Here's the kind of thing to expect:
A morning swim in the heated pool. Blake's Kitchen sausage rolls with a flat white. Clay pigeons before lunch, Pen Yen for dinner. Back on your bikes by 9pm — five minutes home to oak beams, an inglenook fire and a garden that's entirely your own.
That's the rhythm that our Soho House guests tend to fall into. It turns out that the best way to enjoy the Farmhouse is to not actually stay there.
See the cottage →Yes — Soho Farmhouse is a private members' club. You need to be a member, or the guest of a member, to access the spa, restaurants, pool and other amenities. If you're a member travelling with non-member friends, you can bring them in as guests under your membership.
Less than a mile — roughly 0.8 miles door to gate. It's a five-minute drive or a flat, easy cycle on quiet country lanes. The Farmhouse also lends bikes to members, and the ride to Well Cottage is a short and very pleasant one.
Non-members can stay at Well Cottage and enjoy everything else in the area — the Cotswolds, Blenheim Palace, Oxford, the excellent local pubs and restaurants. Access to Soho Farmhouse's private facilities requires a member in your group to bring you in as a guest.
Well Cottage sleeps seven across four bedrooms — a king, a double, a twin and a bunk room with a pull-out. There are two bathrooms, two living rooms and a full kitchen. It's well set up for a larger group or two families.
Yes — particularly at weekends. Spa treatments, tennis and padel courts, horse riding and cinema screenings should all be booked through the Soho House app before you arrive. Restaurant reservations, especially Pen Yen, also go quickly on busy weekends.
Unfortunately we don't accept dogs or pets at Well Cottage.
Four bedrooms, sleeps seven, less than a mile from the Farmhouse. The best holiday let near Soho Farmhouse — and they'll lend you a bike for the ride.
