Quince and Clover

Quince and Clover

Great Tew is one of those villages that looks like it was placed there by a set designer, and Quince and Clover sits right at its heart. It's the sort of place where you order coffee and end up staying for lunch, then leaving with ice cream for the walk home.

The menu changes with the seasons, which tells you something about the people behind it. Breakfast and brunch are where they really shine: think slow-cooked eggs, sourdough from a proper baker, and combinations that feel considered rather than complicated. The coffee is good, the portions are honest, and there's a warmth to the service that makes the whole thing feel more like someone's kitchen than a caf'. On a sunny morning, grab one of the tables outside and watch the village do its quiet thing.

Then there's the ice cream. They make it themselves, and it's genuinely exceptional. The flavours rotate, but whatever's on that day will be worth trying. We've been known to drive to Great Tew purely for a scoop on a warm afternoon, which is either a recommendation or a confession (possibly both). It's a ten-minute drive from Well Cottage, or a lovely walk across the fields if you fancy earning it.

“Our default weekend routine: walk to Great Tew, brunch at Quince and Clover, ice cream on the way out. It hasn't got old yet.”
