The Living Room Cinema

Chipping Norton's independent cinema feels less like a screen and more like someone's very good living room. Sink into a sofa, order a proper drink, and let the evening take care of itself.

The Living Room Cinema

The Living Room is one of those places that makes you wonder why every cinema isn't like this. It sits on the high street in Chippy, small and beautifully run, with deep sofas and armchairs instead of the usual fold-down seats. They show all the new releases alongside the occasional classic, and the bar does craft beers, good wine and cocktails you'd happily order a second of. It's the kind of evening where you walk out thinking the film was brilliant, even if it was only quite good, because the whole experience lifts it.

From the cottage the drive takes about ten minutes. We'd suggest booking ahead, especially at weekends; the screens are intimate, which is part of the charm, but it does mean popular showings fill up. Grab something to eat in Chippy beforehand (there's plenty of choice on the high street) and you've got yourself a complete night out without ever touching a main road.

“Watching a film from a sofa with a proper cocktail in hand. It's how cinema should always have been.”
