Cowley Road has always been where Oxford eats when it doesn't want to perform. It's the city's most genuinely international stretch — Vietnamese, Ethiopian, Lebanese, Japanese — and Dosa Darlings sits among them on its own terms. The food is South Indian: proper dosas, curries with real depth, BBQ dishes and a bar that takes its Indian cocktails seriously. The room is atmospheric in a way that feels earned rather than designed — large terrazzo tables that seat whole groups, a covered heated terrace surrounded by palm trees, and a rear garden that can take a party of fifty. It's the kind of place where the evening quietly extends.
Walk-ins are welcome, but if you're coming as a group of five or more a booking is sensible — the place fills quickly, and the bigger tables go first. The menu suits most dietary requirements well; they use halal meat from a certified butcher, keep an allergy menu available, and have plenty for vegetarians and vegans. Open every day from noon: Monday to Saturday until 10pm, Sunday until 9pm. From Well Cottage it's about 40 minutes, and the Cowley Road itself repays a little time before or after — there are good independent shops and a handful of other excellent places to eat nearby.
